ACT Math Strategy Series [Part 1 of 3]

ACT Math Strategy Series [Part 1 of 3] ACT SAT Prep and College Admissions Blog Math is a subject that most students either love or hate. In either case, preparing thoroughly for the Math section of the ACT is important in order to do your best. If math is not your strongest subject, building a solid foundation of understanding will be important for maintaining a decent overall score. If math comes easily for you, reviewing will still be important in order to fill in the gaps in your knowledge, especially if you want your score to truly reflect your ability. Either way, this series of posts gives you valuable strategies that will help you maximize your score. This post is the first of a three part series that looks at strategies for acing the ACT Math section. Knowledge Is More Important Than Strategy Keep in mind, strategy is a supplement for a basic understanding of the subject, not a substitute for it. The ACT measures your knowledge directly and your test taking ability only indirectly, so all the strategy in the world won’t help you if you don’t have the underlying subject knowledge. Focusing on knowledge first and strategy second ensures that you get both the most benefit from your education and the maximum score. Strategy #1: Know Your Outcome Having a target score in mind will help you prepare. If you are strong in math and want your results to show it, you will need to have a very strong understanding of the topics covered as well as be proficient with strategies and shortcuts that will allow you to complete the test questions quickly and accurately. But answering just two thirds of the questions correctly will earn you a solid, respectable 23, which is the average score. This may be acceptable to you if math isn’t your strong suit and you are aiming for a higher score on the other sections. Strategy #2: Use Your Brain Before Your Calculator A calculator is allowed for the ACT Math section, but all of the calculations are based on simple arithmetic (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing) and can be done without one. If you are good at basic arithmetic a calculator won’t necessarily help you to answer questions faster or more accurately, and it certainly won’t help you do the necessary thinking to solve the problems. Using a calculator can actually slow you down if you reach for it reflexively every time, especially if you end up hitting the wrong button and have to start over. Using a calculator is just a different skill, and doesn’t make up for a well-exercised brain, which is the most reliable tool that you have. Strategy #3: Use Drawings To Help You Think A picture is worth a thousand words, or sometimes a thousand equations if it helps you to understand a problem more clearly. Some problems will describe a figure but not display it, for example, in which case it can help you to draw it for yourself so that you can have it in front of you. Other problems will just be easier to understand and solve if you draw them out. Don’t draw or write more than you need to, but do make efficient use of the space you have provided for scratchwork. San Diego`s Number One Attraction are its Universities

San Diego`s Number One Attraction are its Universities When you think of San Diego, CA what thoughts pop up in your mind? Perhaps it is SeaWorld amusement park, the San Diego Zoo or the USS Midway Museum and the Cabrillo National Monument for sure. But did premier education come to you mind as well? No, then read on and lean San Diego is home of the University of California, the  Thomas Jefferson School of Law and the distinguished Salk Institute for Biological studies. Yes, we all love the SeaWorld adventure park where we can enjoy the Shamu orca show or go with our kids on a Wild Arctic Ride and touch bottle nose dolphins.  Along a similar vein there is the San Diego Zoo.  For sure you remember the overhead gondola ride Skyfari  because its vintage construction together with the thought will it hold?  which is still vividly in your mind. When visiting San Diego, the dads among you would not pass up the chance to visit the USS Midway aircraft carrier which served the US Navy for  an unprecedented 47 years and is now a museum.  Seize the day tell your kids about US history from World War II over the Vietnam War to the first golf war in 1991 all events where the  USS Midway participated. One of my favorite history memorials is the Cabrillo National Monument. It commemorates the landing of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo at the San Diego Bay in 1542. This event marked the first time Europeans set foot on the West Coast of what later became the United States. Given these many San Diego attractions, it  probably surprises nobody that San Diego is one of the foremost cities of education. The 2012 National Collegiate Scouting Associations Power Rankings ranks UC San Diego 1st place among Division II colleges and 9th place  overall. Almost 90% of residents received a high school degree and more than 40% of the population received a bachelors degree. San Dieogo is home of ten universities, including University of California at San Diego (UCSD), California State University (CSU), California Western School of Law and Thomas Jefferson School of Law.   Furthermore, there are eight major colleges, such as Grossmont College and Southwestern College. The Salk Institute located in Dan Diegos La Jolla seaside quarter is one of the finest biological research institutes in the world.  Faculty like  Francis Crick (discoverer of the DNA) or neuroscientist Professor  Ramachandran have found a home at the Salk Institute. TutorZ offers tutoring in all of San Diego from Balboa Park down to Ocean Beach which includes high school level tutoring and to graduate studies. 6 Oral Reading Tips for Parents

6 Oral Reading Tips for Parents 6 Oral Reading Tips for Parents According to the National Center for Education statistics, only 53 percent of children age three to five are read to daily by a family member. Children who are read to at home enjoy a substantial advantage over children who are not. That starts from infancy and continues throughout schooling. It is essential for children to continue to read frequently as they get older and be exposed to a variety of genres to maintain reading proficiency. Here are six tips for parents to make reading at home more impactful. Have your child read aloud to you each night through elementary school.  While not necessary, having a specific time establishes a consistent routine. Make a reading nook in your home that your child will associate with book reading. It should be a well-lit area that is free from distractions and comfortable for you both. It can be as simple as bean bags on the floor, a certain place on the couch, or at the kitchen table. As your child reads, point out significant patterns in spelling and sounds.  For instance, the plural of mouse is mice, “ph” makes an “f” sound, and the “w” sound is silent when in front of an “r.” When your child skips or mispronounces a word and keeps reading, point to the word, say it, and have your child repeat it.  When your child stops to self-correct how a word is pronounced and gets it right, praise her. Re-read the whole sentence to ensure comprehension. While reading, pause to ask your child questions about the characters and events in the story.  Sometimes kids are reading, but not fully understanding because they are focused on the mechanics. Before getting to the end of the story, ask your child what she thinks will happen next. Ask her to support her answer with a reason. After finishing the story or the chapter, ask your child to tell you in her words what happened.  Ask follow up questions if important pieces are missing in the summary. Use the illustrations to ask him to describe what happened. Are you looking for even more tips to help develop your childrens reading ability? Never be afraid to seek outside help. Consult with your childrens teachers or consider visiting an after-school program like Kumon. The Kumon Reading Program builds the critical reading skills that help children develop a lifelong love of reading and solid foundation for academic success.  It strengthens reading ability by building essential literacy components such as oral reading, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and summarization. Private Tutors

Private TutorsPrivate tutors can be of great help to students who are on the brink of choosing one subject or another. Since most of the times, their homework or tests are available for download, they are able to check the assignments online, so that they can take these before they go to class. However, there are also other factors which play a role in deciding which subject is chosen for a student. There are many available options, which are being offered by private tutors, including math, history, English, social studies, and biology. These are some of the subjects which are being pursued by people with math problems, and they have to be well prepared for them. For students who want to make sure that they will not only get good grades but also show results, they have to opt for a private tutor who will help them choose the right subject for them. It is important that the subject chosen is the one that has a lot of homework to be completed by the student, otherwise, it will make the e ntire learning process difficult.Students who enroll for private tutoring will find that it is usually easy to identify the best tutor. When they contact a tutor and they find a tutor who is good at his job, they will not find it difficult to ask questions to the tutor. Moreover, the best teachers can provide the students with any kind of answers that are required by the students.Math is the most common subject, which is taught by all kinds of tutors, even though it is difficult to find the right tutor for the students. However, math is not the only subject which is taken for exams. Chemistry and Biology are also studied very seriously by people as students who are thinking of choosing a career or preparing for any kind of test.Apart from this, the best and the most appropriate tutor can also help the student make the right choice. The teacher can also help the student work out different assignments according to the type of subject he/she is studying. If the student finds the tutor to be not suitable or not capable, then the tutor can then be blamed for making a wrong choice. While it is possible to find a math tutor online, it is recommended that the student go to a school where the math tutor is known and trusted. Besides, if the student wants to make sure that he/she is getting the best, then the student should check out the curriculum of the math tutor in advance.

Chemistry Basics

Chemistry BasicsThe four types of bonds that make up a bond are water, hydrogen, carbon and oxygen. These four bonds are responsible for the chemical interactions that have developed all throughout our lives. These bonds play an important role in the existence of the elements and compounds in the body. When it comes to chemistry, there are four types of bonds which are water, hydrogen, carbon and oxygen. We can further break these bonds down into their basic components. The four basic components of a chemical bond are oxygen and hydrogen, and water and nitrogen. The four types of bonds are commonly referred to as hydrogen, carbon, water and oxygen. In liquid form, when we say 'water' we actually refer to a combination of three types of bonds which are water, carbon and hydrogen. The water is made up of two components, water molecules and nitrogen, but the hydrogen can also be made up of some type of element like protons and electrons. These are the four types of bonds in liquid form.In the shape of the liquid we are now referring to, the water is broken down into two types of bonds which are liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen. The nitrogen makes up the right half of the liquid, and the oxygen makes up the left half. The nitrogen and oxygen are made up of the different types of bonds in the liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen. The nitrogen and oxygen molecules are separated and are pushed together by the pressure of the liquid, creating the very best and most pure liquid nitrogen and oxygen. In solid form, the right side of the liquid (liquid nitrogen) has turned into the left side of the liquid (liquid oxygen) and the left side of the liquid (liquid nitrogen) is pushed to the right by the pressure of the liquid (the liquid nitrogen moves to the left and pushes against the right side of the liquid oxygen). The same process that occurs in liquid form occurs when the liquid nitrogen moves to the left and pushes against the right side of the liquid oxygen. The liquid nit rogen and the liquid oxygen are then separated by the solid material which forms the bond between the two liquids. This solid material is called the molecular structure of the molecules.Chemistry has always been a science in a good reason, it is the only way we can understand the chemical interactions occurring within our bodies. For example, the nitrogen in our bodies is responsible for giving us the energy that we need to survive and the nitrogen in our bodies, this nitrogen in our bodies has to be a part of a right balance with our other elements. Thus, the chemistry of the right side of the equation (for our bodies) is made up of water, hydrogen, carbon and oxygen, the left side of the equation is water, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen.Chemistry has played a very important role in the growth of mankind and this is why we have been able to have many different types of soils around the world, this is one of the reasons why chemistry is very important. The forms of the bonds can be b roken down into their basic components and thus the chemistry of the right side of the equation, and the chemistry of the left side of the equation can be used to diagnose diseases and treat them.
